What is Home Run Memorial Day & National Honor Award Day?
September 3rd Home Run Anniversary
On the same day in 1977 (Showa 52), in a professional baseball game between the Yomiuri Giants and the Yakult Swallows, Sadaharu Oh of the Yomiuri Giants (at that time) hit his 756th home run in total, making it the rice that Hank Aaron had at the time. I achieved a new world record that surpassed the record for the most number of majors.
September 5th National Honor Award Day
On the same day in 1977 (Showa 52), Sadaharu Oh of the Yomiuri Giants won Japan's first People's Honor Award. Sadaharu Oh set a world record with 756 home runs two days before he was awarded the People's Honor Award, and the then-Prime Minister, Takeo Fukuda, established the People's Honor Award to honor his feat.
